Originally titled Children of the Wolf, Founding Fathers is Alfred Duggan's story of the reign of King Romulus, always keeping the details of the ancient legend in view, conveys an extraordinary sense of the realities of life in the eighth century B.C.
Through the perspective of four individuals - Marcus Aemilius, Publius Tatius, Perperna, and Macro - the story of the founding of Rome is brought to life by a master of historical fiction.
'The quantity and quality of his work . . . set a formidable standard. Duggan has imposed on all of his novels a unity of vision so compelling that whether we find ourselves in the Britain of the Saxon invasions or the Rome of the Triumvirate, we are principally conscious that we are in Duggan country . . .' I read this as a kid, back when it was called Children of the Wolf. Loved it then, love it now. It is the story of the founding of Rome from a quasi-realistic stance, from the point of view of 4 different people who join the new city at various times over the 40 year reign of Romulus. It moves right along, and is a strong plea for getting along with those of other clans and creeds, without being at all preachy. It's basically a kid's book (maybe young adult described it better) and it's a plea we all need to hear.Product details

Founding Fathers Alfred Duggan 9781447228868 Books Reviews
This book is amazing story which - surely ahistorically - very nicely describes the various roots from which the glory, strength, but also decay of Rome grew. The protagonists are believable and the women are served better than in other Duggan's works.
